| Dear Viewers, Peace in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. "Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield." (Psalm 33:20) This month of August, let us focus on depression in women. Mental illness patterns vary for men and women. Studies indicate that women are more likely to experience major depression problems. Men have higher rates of alcohol abuse. Some factors that contribute to depression in women are: multiple roles, history of sexual and physical abuse, unhappy relationships, ethnic minority status, low self-esteem, poverty, unemployment, and reproductive events. |

Research is also
documenting that older women are a high risk group for depression. Factors playing a role in depression in older women are loss of spouse
from death or divorce, loss of physical health and financial problems.
Some helpful positive things to consider are: Pray, seek professional
help, eat balanced healthy diets, get adequalte rest and sleep,
structure your day, keep active (exercise, walking), keep a journal,
develope a support system, educate yourself about depression, give
yourself positive affirmations, and do something each day for yourself,
and above all find quiet time to meditate and pray.
"The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forever more." (Psalm 121:8) | |
