July, 2006
Dear Viewers,
.
Peace to all in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
.
The month of July is known as Harvest, Hay month and the Dog Days of Summer. "Merciful and gracious is the Lord, slow to anger and abounding in kindness." (Psalm 103:8)
.
Let us examine the word compassion. Webster's dictionary states compassion means deep sympathy, pity. The Modern Catholic Dictionary, Hardon, (2004) states compassion means pity at another person's sorrow or misfortune, with the desire to alleviate or, on occasion, even to suffer in the other's stead.

How was Jesus compassionate? Jesus' compassion wasn't only in words or feelings, he showed it in his actions such as touching the leper (Mark 1:41); lifting Peter's mother-in-law by the hand to relieve her of the fever (Mark 1:31); feeding the hungry (Matt.15:32 and (Mark 8:2); He stopped and listened to the blind men and touched their eyes (Mark 32-34); in Mark 7:32-33 he put his fingers in the ears of the deaf man and he could hear. In reading the gospels there are many accounts of his actions.
.
How do we show compassion? We can demonstrate compassion by contributing to charitable organizations, such as St. Vincent de Paul, Catholic Charities, Catholic Relief Services and or your special charity to help the poor, feed the hungry, and shelter the homeless. We can, also, visit the sick in nursing homes, homes, and hospitals. Parish nurses, when visiting, stop and listen to their patients.
.
We can pray for the unchurched and the churched. We can help someone to see their health care provider, priest, rabbi, pastor and/or spiritual director. 2Cor.5:21 states, "For our sakes, God made him who did not know sin, to be sin, so that in him we might become the very holiness of God."
.
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY
