| Dear Friends and Viewers, Praise be to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to all. Deuteronomy 26: 1-4 First Harvest of Thanksgiving, "When you have come into the land which the Lord, your God, is giving you as a heritage, and have occupied it and settled in it, you shall take some first fruits of the various products of the soil which you harvest from the land which the Lord, your God, gives you, and putting them in a basket, you shall go to the place which the Lord, your God, chooses for the dwelling place of his name.....and shall set it in front of the altar of the Lord, your God." |

November is the month to give thanks and celebrate All Saint's and
Soul's Day; recognize National Diabetic Month and Thanksgiving Day. Let
us concentrate on diabetics being as healthy as can be and review the
facts about the flu vaccination. Some facts as to why diabetics should
receive the vaccination (shot) are: the vaccine can prevent up to 50% to
60% of hospitalizations and 80% of deaths from influenza-related
complications among the elderly. Each year there are an average of
140,000 influenza-related hospitalizations. An average of 20,000
Americans die each year from flu-related illness. For anyone on Medicare
B the vaccine is paid in full. The primary at-risk groups recommended
for the annual vaccination include: Persons age 65 years and older with
certain chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease
asthma, cancer to name a few. Children younger than two years (6-23
months) have one of the highest rates of hospitalizations from
influenza. If a child has a chronic disease or health problem discuss
this with the health care provider the need for the influenza shot.
Persons who care for or live with someone at high risk should receive
the vaccine (CDC). Happy Thanksgiving.
Read Psalm 67 "In the words of Pope John Paul 11, it is sung to the Lord in the name of all the peoples of the earth, who are called to make his ways known, the ways of salvation, light and peace. It invokes God's mercy and calls him to bless his people, that they may produce fruit and in turn become a source of blessing for others" (Catholic Times October 9,2002) | |
