| Dear Viewers, Peace be to all Diabetics. "For I am the Lord who heals you"(Exodus 15:26). "Walk and pray in the Spirit of the Lord"(Galatians5:16). November is designated as the National Diabetes Month by the American Diabetes Association (ADA). This newsletter will focus on the care of your feet. Diabetes can harm the nerves and blood vessels in your feet. |

A person with diabetes may not feel a cut or blister and if left
untreated can lead to infection and possibly loss of the limb. In order
to keep your feet healthy and walking for you please follow these simple
rules: keep your blood sugar close to your goal as prescribed by your
health care provider, take off your shoes and socks and have your feet
checked once a year by your health provider and you check your feet
every day, wash your feet every day and dry them thoroughly and even
between the toes!, check daily for cuts, blisters, redness, and
swelling, NEVER walk barefoot, wear shoes that fit well and if you
have trouble with your feet ask your doctor for advice on proper shoes,
break in new shoes slowly, wear clean padded socks that fit well and
check that the seams are in the right place, cut the nails straight
across and file the edges, DON'T smoke, and shake out your shoes before
putting them on as a small pebble can lead to problems. For more
information call 1-800-DIABETES(342-2383).
People with diabetes are about 3 times more likely to suffer and or die from pneumonia and flu. Pneumonia is a serious illness for anyone and especially serious if you have diabetes so please have your Pneumonia vaccination and the Flu vaccination. These vaccinations could save your life! "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"(Phillippians 4:13). | |
