Let's discuss the vision for Parish Nursing. There are five areas that need to be enhanced and embellished. They are leadership styles, ethics, evangelization, globalization of parish nursing and prayer. First, evangelization will definitely increase in a given particular faith community. We as parish nurses are witness to the word of God. We proclaim this word in our newsletters and every prayer we say. Second, globalization of parish nursing will grow beyond our borders. Viterbo University, Lacrosse, Wi is having a Basic Parish Nurse Preparation Class October 26, 27, 28 and 29th, 2008 at the Franciscan Spirituality Center in Lacrosse and if any RN is interested, please call the Nursing Department 1-608-796-3670 for further information. Third, leadership of the parish nurse will be expanding as faith communities grow and the world becomes more complex The expectation of the parish nurse will be to have a style of leadership that facilitates her/his practice. Fourth, ethics will be in the media more frequently. This requires the parish nurse to be updated on many new developments in ethics. Fifth, the spiritual dimension is central to our practice as our philosophy states. Prayer with our patients will increase because of our enthusiasm and willingness to pray with our patients during every contact. Parish Nursing, through the presence of practicing parish nurses will foster and promote the growth of parish nursing worldwide. Romans 11:29 states, "For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable."
