| Dear Viewers, Peace be to all of you. "I have come so that you may have life and have it more abundantly"(John 10:10). This month of October is recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A woman's risk of developing breast cancer increases as she ages. Over three-fourths of the breast cancer diagnosed each year occur in women age 50 and over. A woman of 70 is almost twice as likely to develop breast cancer in the next year as a woman of 50 years(ACS). |

A peace of mind can come as a present to yourself when you have a
mammogram this year and every year. Please see your health care
provider. It is not known what causes breat cancer; it is known that
early detection gives a woman a chance to beat this disease. A
mammogram can detect a very small tumor. The American Cancer Society
recommends annual mammograms for women age 40 and over, clinical breast
exams yearly, and breast self exams(BSE) every month. For women ages
20-39, ACS recommends clinical breast exam every three years, BSE every
month, if there is a family history of breast cancer discuss mammography
guidelines with your health care provider. Medicare covers mammograms according to your age and risk. Call 1-800-ACS-2345 for more information.
This month also focuses on the flu vaccine recommended for anyone 50 years and older, and those younger with chronic illness and or at high risk. The pnuemococcal vaccine recommended for anyone who is 65 years and older and for those 2 years-64 years of age with chronic illness and or at high risk-contact your physician. "For I will restore you to health; of your wounds I will heal you"(Jeremiah 30:17). | |
