Job of the Old Testament is noted for many afflictions of the body including the skin, but he withstood and never wavered in his faith in God. The Book of Job has been and will continue to be a rich source of comfort to children of affliction (The Pocket Bible Dictionary).
.
August is National Psoriasis Awareness Month. The National Psoriasis Foundation was founded in 1968. Psoriasis is a noncontagious skin disease diagnosed in about five million adults. It can also occur in children. It occurs between the ages of 15 and 35 equally between males and females. Anyone can get psoriasis. Sometimes there is a family history of the disease. It is believed to have a genetic component, which is being researched. It is characterized by plaque which can be patchy, red, white and scaly and sometimes itchy. Scratching of lesions can lead to infection. This plaque can be found on the scalp, knees, elbows, torso, nails, palms and soles of the feet. As of today there is no cure. It has to be diagnosed by your health care provider. There is also a Psoriasis Arthritis which causes pain and swelling.
.
The treatment of Psoriasis can include topical ointments, light therapy, systemic treatment and a combination of therapy. Please follow the directions of your health care provider.
.
Stress can trigger the disease. So, have a positive self-image about yourself and keep in mind that you are more than your disease. The most important thing to do is to have a deep knowledge of your disease, read Job, develop a prayer life and trust in the Lord.
.
August 15 is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virigin Mary. Have a safe summer.
.
3 John 1:2 states, "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things, and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
