Dear Viewers, In the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. " Casting all your care upon Him, for he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7) August is a month of hot sun, flowers in full bloom, ripening of garden vegetables and fruits. We begin to think of the final days of summer and the beginning of fall. |
|
| There is a feeling of loneliness that comes when summer ends. Loneliness has many faces. North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA) describes loneliness as the state in which an individual is at risk for experiencing discomfort associated with a desire or need for contact with others. Solitude, on the other hand, is a self-determined decision to be alone without others for comfort and rest. Loneliness is associated with retirement, loss of a child, spouse, and or friend, chronic health problems, social isolation, feeling of being not connected, war, depressed, relocation, loss of transportation, divorce, empty nest syndrome, fear of rejection, to name a few. Some health problems that develop from states of loneliness can cause increased blood pressure and blood sugar, stress, loss of sleep and ulcers. How do human beings cope with loneliness? Some interventions are prayer, reading the bible and devotional books, saying the rosary, meditating, plan for retirement early, family support, find transportation, join grief support groups, pets, and see your health care provider. Of importance is to have long lasting friendships and attend the church of your choice. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Heb.13:5b). | |
