Men die at a higher rates than women from the top causes of death and are the victims of over 92% of workplace deaths. Some of these causes of death are heart disease, cancer, strokes, injuries, chronic lung disease, suicide and HIV infections. Women, on the other hand are 100% more likely to visit the doctor for annual visits. There is a silent health crisis in America. It is a fact that men live sicker and die younger than American women. There is more depression in men and more men are victims more often of homicide. There are 115 males conceived for every 100 females (CDC.GOV). While there are 105 births to 100 female births. Considering these above facts what can be done to increase the health of American men? Men need to make annual appointments with their Health Care Provider (HCP) and make certain they keep the appointments. There seems to be a lack of awareness and education about men's health and screenings Visit www.menshealthnetwork.org/healthzone for more information on how to start an awareness activity. There needs to be more men's health education, more awareness of cultural behavior health patterns, Parish Nurses, in their churches can place pamphlets about men's health and screening issues in men's bathrooms and at health fairs held in their churches. Information booths can be set up at county fairs,sporting events, concerts, or other community affairs. Visit your PARISH NURSE for more information. Let's see what we can do for our men.
