Psalm 121:2 states, "My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth."
.
Let's focus on the concept of bereavement. Webster's dictionary states that bereavement is being deprived by death, loss, to be robbed of hope and possessions, to be left desolate through loss and death and to be forlorn. Bereavement is the process of grieving. This is clearer when reading John 11:1-44 as Jesus experienced grief when Lazarus died. Jesus wept and mourned. Mourning is the process of working through bereavement. It is more external and determined by culture, custom and religion.
.
Some myths of grieving are: mourning only lasts 48 hours to two weeks, keep busy, don't think, don't cry. this is a private matter, mourning is only for women, forget it and you'll get over it, everyone grieves the same, not showing emotion means that the grief is being handled, and time heals grief.
.
If there is difficulty in the process of grieving there is help that can be acquired through Health Professionals when the grieving process robs them of rest, eating properly, not able to work, and experiencing depression. Help from your Parish Nurse involves active listening, sharing of memories, referring to support systems and appropriate Health Care Professionals, praying with them, avoiding the use of common cliches. being with them (presence), and aiding them to attend worship to name a few.
.
Rev. 21:4 states, "He shall wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, crying out of pain, for the former world has passed away."
.
CELEBRATE MEMORIAL DAY SAFELY.
