The Teutonic translation for Lent means spring season and fasting before Easter. In Greek the fortieth day is called Tessrakoste. In Latin 40 days is quadragesima. www.newadvent.org

In preparing for Easter, Christians practice fasting, prayer and almsgiving during lent. Have a PRAYERFULL LENTEN JOURNEY.

Let us focus on preparation for disasters. We need to be ready for any event of a disaster such as floods, fires, storms, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc., otherwise we will cope. We should be prepared for at least 3 days. We will discuss only 3 areas that need preparation: your car, your house and at work. Some things to do are:your car needs to have a full tank of gas, be maintained regularly, battery checked or replaced as scheduled. You car could be your only source of heat and news. At work, know the exit routes and stairways, medical kits, and keep walking shoes in your desk. At home, know where to shut off gas, power and water, have an emergency plan and test it, need a 3 day water supply and non-perishable foods handy, keep extra prescription medications in a safe place, flashlight, first aid kit, battery operated radio, charged cell phone, meeting place outside of home, smoke detectors, and keep house in good repair. 1 John 1:5 states, "Here, then, is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: that God is light, in Him there is no darkness."
